The Engagement Edit: Part I

Part I

Platter and Graze put together an engagement party with an amazing group of kiwi vendors. Over the next few weeks we will be releasing a series of blogs to show you how we threw the party together and the amazing kiwi vendors you can also use.

We wanted to go for a classy and minimalist theme. The first thing to do when organising any party, is to put together a moodboard - this is very important as it will help you focus on a particular colour/theme and create your overall vision. There are so many different colour schemes, themes and party ideas out there on Pinterest that you don't want to be changing ideas every 5 minutes.

Once your moodboard is done, you should lock in your date + venue. For Ying, we wanted to find a beautiful space in central Auckland. We found hers on Airbnb, a beautiful New York style loft apartment on Karangahape Road. We fell in love with the space due to it's beautiful open space, large industrial windows which let in plenty of natural light and the general ambience.

Once your date and venue has been booked in, it's time to put together your invitations, you want to get these out early so your friends have the date saved! For Ying's engagement we went to Laser Foil, we sent through our moodboard and asked them for a simple, yet elegant invitation card. The team at Laser Foil came up with a beautiful and elegant invite, with gold foiling. The team were so easy to work with, they understood exactly what we needed from the beginning and were able to give us 2 choices. From the time we got in touch with Tim, to receiving the prints, it was only 3 weeks!

So you have your venue, date and friends.....now you need to feed them. For us we wanted to make sure our guests came hungry and left absolutely full. Definitely guilty of over catering, but it is just how we are - can you relate too??

For the main food grazing table we wanted to create not only a tasty table with the highest quality food but also a beautiful table worth gramming ;). The key elements of the table included:

Centre piece Signage - Beautiful hand drawn sign by @paperdarling - this personalises the table and simplicity of the elegant lettering helps to tie in the whole table. Paper Darling are so creative and can custom anything to suit your event. This sign could have also been used as a welcome sign!

Acrylic signs - Each of the tables had an acrylic handwritten sign by @paperdarling that said "eat", "drink" and "enjoy" - again this personalises your tables and adds a subtle but fun element to the table. The clear acrylic is also a great way to add a little direction/guide for your guests without distracting from your table. Super chic but effective!

Flowers - fresh flowers by @little.leaf.florals - fresh white flowers with greenery you really can't go wrong with this classic combination. The flowers as the backdrop elevated the look of the grazing table and was visually stunning, grabbing your attention as soon as you walked in. Flowers and greenery always add an extra touch to any event.

Table - elegant table by @Arkade - Modern. Chic. Sophisticated. The Arkade Bar Leaner table was perfect for the space, fitting right in with the vibe of the loft. A sturdy wooden table on the signature Arkade trestle legs. No fuss set up and looks great! They have a great selection of table sizes for every occasion, chairs and other furniture too, make sure you check them out if you're looking to hire a cool table.

Beautiful food - by @Platter and Graze - Ying's family and friends love seafood, in particular Salmon and therefore there were an abundance of beautiful salmon by @Matakana Smokehouse, they have gravlax, cold smoked salmon and hot smoked salmon.  We swear by this brand, as they are a local kiwi brand, who makes exquisite fresh salmon that is so fresh and so tasty. The salmon flew off the plates so quickly, we didn't get the chance to take many photos!! If you haven't tried them make sure you do, they also have a stall at the Matakana Markets (Matakana Village, NZ).

The rest of the table consisted of beautiful props by Platter and Graze and delicious cheeses, fresh fruits, breads, crackers and a selection of catered dishes such as salads, lamb skewers, quiche, chicken and baked salmon.
